AN IDEA
Hello Internet persons, I want to run an idea by you.
This is an idea I had while asleep, or to be more precise, it came during an argument with the actress Jessica Walter from Arrested Development in a dream. There is a chance fictional Jessica Walter will sue me for ownership of the idea but we'll cross that bridge when it turns into a trout in some other dream.
THE IDEA IS THIS:
It is a dating app where after the initial match of profiles, you play a series of simple quiz games against the person you match with. There would be a chat window so you could collaborate instead of being opponents. You would each have up to a minute to complete and then you would see the other person's answers and score and get the option of a fresh game. The idea being to prompt discussion of interests and opinions. So for example it might look a bit like this:
1. Place these David Bowie albums in release order:
Ziggy Stardust
Let's Dance
Black Tie White Noise
Blackstar
2. What's your favourite song on any of these albums?
So the chat might go something like:
You: I think I know this
Me: I've never heard of Black Tie White Noise! I love Let's Dance though. Put on your red shoes etc
You: THAT IS THE WORST ALBUM YOU ARE A TERRIBLE PERSON!! Hahaha no I'm just kidding!!!!! :) :) :)
Me: OK I think I've got it.
You: If you want a hint Blackstar was not long before he died
Me: DAVID BOWIE DIED????
Then it would be like:
YOU:
1.
Ziggy Stardust
Black Tie White Noise
Let's Dance
Blackstar
You have scored two out of four
2. STARMAN
Me:
1.
Let's Dance
Ziggy Stardust
Black Tie White Noise
Blackstar
You have scored two out of four
2. Let's Dance, fight me :)
ANYWAY you get the idea. The point is not so much that the questions themselves would show compatibility but they would break the ice and get you to chat about a broad range of topics naturally.
SO, Pros to this idea:
1. Less likely to suffer from scam / bot accounts because they would have to put a lot more effort in to convince
2. You discover the cute person has the correct final fantasy opinions (this pro in no way influenced by the correct final fantasy opinions of Sue Lightning)
3. If the initial matches don't work out, the scores you get could be used to better prioritise other later matches?
Cons:
1. Maybe dating sites already do stuff like this? IDK. Maybe YOU know and can tell me.
2. You discover that a very hot person is a fan of Jacob Rees-Mogg and not ironically
3. Three years into marriage you release that simply having the correct final fantasy opinions is not a guarantee of a successful relationship (KIDDING THIS WOULD NEVER HAP WITH ME N SUE)
SO THERE WE ARE. Usually when I come up with an idea during a dream it turns out to be utter nonsense on waking but I think this has some potential? Or maybe that just proves that it is really Jessica Walter's idea after all.

I haven't been on any dating sites, but I assume scheduling in a time when two people, or multiple couples, can get together online to discuss and fill in a quiz might be tricky. Also tricky to find interests that are broad enough that most people will have heard of them, but specific enough that people might learn something about each other from talking about them. People certainly do discuss interests sometimes on dating sites, but mostly in terms of checking boxes from what I hear. Still, it's not a bad idea, but a bit like focused speed-dating online, without the benefit of meeting the person and seeing what they're like. But with the potential benefit of not having to meet the person, if you're not that into socialising anyway. Might be more of a help for people who want to do online/penpal style dating.
