So I was o'er hasty in my choices for the latest Gousto box and it is probably the least successful one I've had. Also I fell for the Marmite ads and decided that, never having tried Marmite, I should decide whether I was a LOVER or a H8ER. I am a H8ER! In addition to being bizarrely expensive, Marmite tastes very bad. It's like there's an industrial factory in my mouth, and everyone's invited. I refuse to believe that anyone likes Marmite, let alone half of all people.
Ten-min Beef and Mushroom Stroganoff
Once before I was caught out by selecting something that takes little time to make but is the worse for it. For one thing, this came with one of those pouches of rice that is already cooked and you have to warm up in the microwave which bleeugh. The rest of it was OK though the beef strips which came pre-stripped were rather gristley. The recipe says "Special equipment: scissors", too.
Chicken Satay Curry With Kale Brown Rice
One of two, TWO meals to contain the inedible green objects known as kale. Kale aside this was OK, a standard curry but with some peanut butter in basically. Also 3 "kaffir lime leaves" which I don't think added very much beyond faffiness.
Comforting Sweet Potato-Topped Cottage Pie
I needed comforting after eating kale, but this had MORE KALE in it. I thought the idea of using sweet potato and red onion was interesting and might give the whole thing a richer flavour but it wasn't anything to write home about.
Easy Oven-Baked Haddock and Leek Risotto
This, as the name suggests, is cooked like a casserole rather than on the hob, which worked fine but was overall rather bland.
SO THAT WAS NICE
