Miss Sherlock

I WATCHED ALL OF MISS SHERLOCK, SPOILERS
Wato: YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS SHERLOCK
Sherlock: YEAH WELL YOUR FRIENDS ARE YOUR LANDLADY, YOUR COUNSELLOR AND HER ONLY OTHER CLIENT
Wato: I HAD OTHER FRIENDS THEIR TUMMIES EXPLODED AND THEY DIED
Sherlock: OH YEAH HEHEHEHEHEHEHE
The above is not an actual exchange from the Japanese Sherlock Holmes drama "Miss Sherlock", but it could have been.
1) Yƫko Takeuchi, who you may VAGUELY remember was Keiko in that FlashForward show we all liked for four weeks, is great in the lead, even though she's really playing the Doctor. My favourite thing is how she just grabs stuff and plays with it and is told off a lot
2) Wato is RUBBISH. In the whole season she makes two deductions and gets brainwashed. One of the deductions was wrong. Joan Watson she ain't. However she is a cute dork, and her attempts to get Sherlock to behave vaguely human occasionally are sweet.
3) There is a lot of handwaving. Wato's hotel blows up (?) so Japanese Mycroft is all like JUST GO LIVE WITH SHERLOCK FOREVER. OK. Doesn't Wato have an actual home? I mean, she was volunteering abroad and came back, I presume she didn't intend to live in a hotel for the rest of her life. You expect the fire at the hotel to be SUSPICIOUS but I don't think it was.
4) There are three Moriarty candidates. One is a British guy called James, so obv it's not him. One is a psychopath with a name that sounds vaguely like a Japanification of Moriarty so it's not either. One is a weird creepy lady who is very bad at counselling. IT'S HER. This is possibly the first time ever that Sherlock, Watson and Moriarty have all been female and non-white?
5) There is no sibling rivalry between Sherlock and Mycroft, they get on very well. I appreciate this because infraholmes tension is tedious to me. Also they both have AMAZING hair. The hair is good all round, the Lestrade man (Reimon) also has great hair.
6) Lots of things are set up and not paid off. I went along with it for a while but by the end of episode seven I was like BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE THINGSSSSS???
7) The police are utterly rubbish and even by the standards of this sort of thing Sherlock has amazing plot armour. I honestly can't figure out how she gets away at the end of episode seven, or how she gets in and out of 221B when they are watching the place.
8) I kinda wish they hadn't pulled the Reichenbach card, it just makes things too predicable. Like I WONDER IF SHERLOCK AND MORIARTY WILL FALL OFF THIS THING BUT SHERLOCK WON'T BE DEAD SOMEHOW?????? The actual final exchange between Sherlock and Wato was nice, though. It seems like they're going for the ol' Moffat theme of "Great man trying to be a good one", which is a bit tired, except it's a GIRL
9) I covet Sherlock's entire wardrobe, especially the grey trousers and the plum sweater. AND GOD CAN THIS WOMAN RUN IN HEELS. I've never seen owt like it, and I watched about five and a half seasons of Charmed. She must have ankles like Arnie's pecs.
10) I have been trying on and off to learn Japanese over the past year or two, and was pleased that I picked up a fair bit of the dialogue, maybe around one line in every ten or so. It meant that I could often tell when the subtitles were playing a bit fast and loose with a literal translation, but hey ho. Speaking of which, there were times when Sherlock was surely saying something Holmesy like "THE GAME IS AFOOT!" and the subtitles were all like "An event has occurred."
11) I would watch a season two.
12) Some of the music is really nice and some is awful and intrusive.
