Spoooooooilerrs. Well, not really, who the hell knows what it's actually going to be about? Anyway:
The darker tone was reminiscent of Type-0, and the knight armour a little similar to the judge's armour from XII. That suggests it could be an Ivalice game, which would be very nice since XII is my fave lol
The combat so far seems to be one character at a time, like Lightning Returns but unlike every main series entry (well I suppose in XIII and XV you only directly controlled one character at a time). That, if it holds for the whole game, will be very controversial with fans but probably less so with main players. The combat itself read well, I think, less visually chaotic than XV.
Cannot be sure who's doing the music but possibly Yoko? (No, not that one). There's a string quartet version of the FF main theme and a very brooding and brassy take on the Prelude. I think it's the first time the Prelude hasn't been all tinkly and sweet, which adds to the likelihood that the whole thing is going to be grimdark.
General lack of female characters so far, which suggests XV (which, let us recall, began life as a spin-off before being promoted, and thus has an excuse for its woeful* female cast), and also a a generally human-based population. If it is an Ivalice game I hope at least for a Viera or two. Another thing that suggests XV is the main character aging during the game from, LET US GO OUT ON A LIMB AND ASSUME, a hot-headed spiky haired youth to a cynical, battle-scarred veteran.
It looks like summons are called "icons" and perhaps summoners are called... hang on, I've forgotten... ah yes, "dominant". We also see summons fighting summons, which I think hasn't happened since X? Certainly doesn't happen in XII, XIII or XV that I recall (I suppose you might be able to a summon an Esper to fight an Esper in XII, the Espers were all so useless that I never bothered to try). I personally like Summon vs Summon, it was a cool aspect of X that is overdue another go.
Dunno when it will come out. Certainly not in the next 12 months, but they have hired a localised voice cast and got Amano to do a logo already, so it might not be THAT far away.
Anyway yes, consider me cautiously excited
* Yes, OK, except Aranea, satisfied?
